CCTV Installation in KL & Selangor: What the Job Involves

Choosing cameras is the easy part. The difference between a system that actually helps after an incident and one that produces useless footage is almost entirely in the installation: where each camera points, how the cable is run, how recording is stored, and whether anyone can retrieve the footage when it matters.

Direct answer: KL Servis Rumah installs residential and small-business CCTV across Kuala Lumpur and Selangor from RM 420 per camera, with a 12-month camera and installation warranty. We work with Hikvision, Dahua, Ezviz, TP-Link (Tapo) and Tuya, covering both wired PoE NVR systems and wireless Wi-Fi cloud systems.

If you are still deciding on camera types, resolution and storage, read the CCTV buying and installation guide for KL first. This page is about the installation itself.

What is included in an installation

  • Site survey and camera position plan — entry points, blind spots and high-risk areas mapped before anything is drilled
  • Itemised quote — cameras, NVR or cloud plan, cabling, brackets and any access equipment for high mounting points
  • Cable routing — CAT6 through ceiling voids, trunking or conduit for wired systems; discreet trunking for power on wireless systems
  • Camera mounting and aiming — vandal-resistant brackets, focus and angle set on site
  • Recording setup — NVR configured with retention settings, or cloud account paired for Wi-Fi systems
  • Mobile app pairing — iOS and Android, tested for remote viewing before we leave
  • Documentation and handover — camera position photos, admin and default password handover, app instructions, written warranty

Wired PoE or wireless Wi-Fi?

A practical rule for the Klang Valley: wired for landed property where cables can be routed during or after renovation, wireless for condos where drilling through structural walls and running long cable runs is restricted.

How many cameras

PropertyTypical countUsual coverage
Condo (1,000–1,500 sqft)1–4Entrance, living area, balcony, service yard
2-storey terrace with small garden4–6Front door, gate, driveway, back door, living area
Landed house, larger plot6–8Add side gate, garage, perimeter points
Small shoplot or office4–8Entrance, counter, storage, rear exit

We propose a plan based on your layout, not a fixed number. A free site survey usually changes the count in one direction or the other once blind spots are walked.

Our process

  1. Site survey and camera plan. We walk the property, identify entry points and blind spots, and propose positions with coverage notes.
  2. Transparent quote. Itemised: cameras, NVR or cloud, cabling, brackets, access equipment.
  3. Cable routing. CAT6 through ceiling voids, trunking or conduit for wired. For wireless, each camera is placed within Wi-Fi range with discreet trunking for power.
  4. Mounting and configuration. Brackets fitted, cameras aimed and focused, connected to NVR or cloud, app installed and tested on your phone.
  5. Documentation and handover. Written report with position photos, passwords, app instructions and warranty.

Packages and pricing

PackageStarting price
Condo Wi-Fi CCTV package (4 cameras)From RM 2,200
Landed house PoE CCTV (8 cameras)From RM 4,200
Single camera add-on to an existing systemFrom RM 420
CCTV system health check and relocationFrom RM 220

What changes the price: camera count and resolution, wired versus wireless, cable run length and difficulty, NVR channel count and hard-disk size, mounting height, and whether existing infrastructure can be reused.

Practical points people overlook

  • Power availability. Wireless cameras still need mains power. If there is no socket near the mounting point, that is an electrical job before the camera job.
  • Retention length. An 8-channel NVR with a 2TB drive typically holds around a week of continuous recording. Longer retention needs a bigger drive or motion-only recording.
  • Condo common areas. Cameras inside your own unit are straightforward. Corridors and lobbies need management approval and often a management-approved contractor.
  • Password handover. You should hold the admin credentials, not the installer. We hand them over in writing at completion.
  • Night performance. Camera specs matter less than positioning relative to porch lights and street lamps. Backlight ruins otherwise good footage — sometimes the fix is a lighting adjustment rather than a better camera.
  • Gate integration. If you are installing or upgrading an autogate, running the CCTV cable at the same time saves duplicated trunking work.

Common problems we get called for

Frequently asked questions

How long does an installation take?

A 4-camera wireless condo install is usually a half to full day. An 8-camera wired landed installation typically takes a full day, longer if cable routing is complex.

Can I add cameras to my existing system?

Yes, if the NVR has spare channels or the wireless system supports more devices. Adding one camera to an existing Hikvision, Dahua, Ezviz or Tapo system starts from RM 420.

Do I need a cloud subscription?

Not for a wired NVR system — recording is local. Wireless systems record to cloud, and the free tier is often short. We explain the retention you are actually getting before you buy.

Can I view the cameras from overseas?

Yes. All systems we install support remote viewing on iOS and Android, and we test it with you before handover.

Is CCTV legal in a Malaysian condo?

Inside your own unit, yes. Common-area cameras need management approval and usually a management-approved installer. We can prepare the camera specification and position plan for your application.

What does the warranty cover?

Twelve months on cameras and on our installation work. Faults caused by power surges, physical damage or third-party tampering are assessed case by case.
