Built-in Wardrobe Installation in KL & Selangor

A built-in wardrobe uses the full height and width of an alcove or wall. In a typical KL condo bedroom that is the difference between a 2-door shop wardrobe and a floor-to-ceiling run that hides the air-cond trunking and still leaves a walkway.

Direct answer: KL Servis Rumah designs and installs built-in wardrobes from RM 320 / linier ft, with internal drawers, shelves, hanging rails, and laminate or mirror doors. Structure is covered by a 5-year cabinet structure warranty.

This article explains how we plan internals, what affects price, and when a repair is enough instead of a new wardrobe.

What a built-in wardrobe includes

A standard quotation covers:

  • Floor-to-ceiling or bulkhead-height carcass, scribed to the wall.
  • A mix of hanging, shelves and drawers agreed on the drawing.
  • Hanging rails sized for shirts / long dresses as planned.
  • Swing or sliding doors in laminate, or a mirror-door option.
  • Soft-close hinges or sliding-door dampers on the quoted hardware.
  • Installation, alignment and on-site cleanup.

Handles can be ours or yours. Lighting, glass internals and a dressing-table return are extras.

Related joinery: TV console and feature wall, custom carpentry.

Swing doors vs sliding doors

We decide this on site, not from a Pinterest photo. A sliding door on an out-of-level condo floor is a callback waiting to happen.

How to plan the inside

A useful split for one working adult is roughly:

  • One hanging bay for shirts and trousers.
  • One long-hang bay if you keep dresses or robes.
  • Drawers for folded clothes (shallower than a deep cupboard).
  • A high shelf for luggage and spare bedding.

Couples usually need more drawer width than they expect. Children need lower hanging and fewer deep top shelves.

If an existing wardrobe door no longer shuts, do not force it — the hinge plate or carcass may have moved. See wardrobe door not closing.

Materials that survive KL humidity

  • Plywood carcass for sides, shelves and drawer boxes that take weight.
  • Laminate doors for daily wipe-down.
  • Mirror doors to visually widen a small bedroom — the carcass still needs to be rigid.
  • Avoid raw MDF shelves next to a sweating window unless they are fully sealed.

Edge banding is not cosmetic. Open edges take monsoon humidity first.

How installation is done

  1. Measure — width, height, depth, ceiling bulkhead, window, and socket positions.
  2. Drawing and quote — door type, internals, finish, hardware brand.
  3. Workshop — usually 2–3 weeks after you approve the drawing.
  4. Install — typically 1–2 days for one bedroom wardrobe.
  5. Handover — doors aligned, rails load-tested by hand, site vacuumed.

In condos we book the lift, protect the cabin, and work inside management hours.

How much does a built-in wardrobe cost?

ItemStarting price
Built-in wardrobeFrom RM 320 / linier ft
Study desk (if combined)From RM 1,100
Other custom carpentryFrom RM 300 / linier ft

A 7–8 ft bedroom run is the common condo size. Price rises with full-height to a high ceiling, extra drawer banks, sliding-door systems, and mirror or glass doors. The quote is itemised before we cut.

What we check on site

  • Whether the “wardrobe wall” is brick or a gypsum partition — fixings differ.
  • Floor level for sliding tracks.
  • Air-cond blow onto hanging clothes.
  • Door clearance versus the bed and the bedroom door.
  • Whether you want a lighting point inside the wardrobe.

Common mistakes

  • Ordering by room type (“3-room condo wardrobe”) instead of measured width.
  • Filling the whole run with hanging and then stacking clothes on the floor.
  • Choosing heavy mirror doors on weak hinges.
  • Building past a fire-sprinkler or AC drain without a cut-out.
  • Painting MDF doors in the bedroom and trapping dust on wet paint.

Frequently asked questions

How long from measure to handover?

Usually 4 to 6 weeks: design, workshop, then 1–2 days install.

Can you match my existing wardrobe?

We can match laminate colour and door style closely. An exact factory colour from another vendor is not always available; we will show samples.

Do you dismantle the old wardrobe?

Yes, when it is in the same position. Disposal follows your condo’s debris rules.

Can I stay in the room during install?

For a single wardrobe, often yes if the bed can shift. We contain dust as much as a site install allows.

What if only one door is failing?

We can sometimes refit hinges or plane a door. If the carcass has racked or swollen, replacement of that bay is cleaner than forcing new doors onto a bad box.
