A smart lock only works if the door latches, the mortice fits the stile, and the users are actually registered before the installer leaves. KL Servis Rumah supplies and installs digital keypad, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and fingerprint locks on landed houses and condos across Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.
Direct answer: Smart lock installation starts from RM 420, including pairing the app and registering users. We commonly fit Samsung, Yale, Igloohome, Solity, Häfele, Kaiser and Philips models that match the door.
This page is about installation. Brand comparison and feature lists live in the smart lock buying guide for Malaysian homes (2026). Other lock work is on locksmith services.
What the installation includes
- Check door type, thickness, stile width and existing hole.
- Supply (or fit your) lock.
- Remove the old lock and prepare the door.
- Fit, align and test the latch and deadbolt.
- App pairing, admin setup, fingerprint or PIN registration.
- Walkthrough of mechanical key override and battery warnings.
It does not include rebuilding a warped door. If the leaf does not meet the strike, we fix that first or we refuse to “force” the lock.
Will my door take a smart lock?
Most Malaysian main doors will, with one of these paths:
- Existing hole matches — common on condos (Solity / Häfele style cutouts). 30–60 minutes.
- New mortice — we cut a pocket in a timber stile. 1.5–2 hours.
- Metal door — possible with the right kit; quoted after we see the leaf.
Hollow light bedroom doors and very narrow stiles are a poor fit. We will say so.
If a lock already on the door is dead, see smart lock not working before you buy another unit — the cause is often batteries or alignment, not the brand.
What we check so the lock lasts
- Door alignment. A dropped hinge makes a fingerprint lock fight the strike every time. Related: loose door hinge.
- Latch direction and backset.
- Power. Fresh batteries, USB emergency supply if the model has one.
- Wi-Fi or hub only if you actually bought a connected model — many “app” locks are Bluetooth only at the door.
- Mechanical override keys handed to you, not left in the factory bag on the kitchen counter.
Cost
| Item | Starting price |
|---|---|
| Smart lock installation | From RM 420 |
| Mortice / deadbolt (mechanical) | From RM 220 |
| Key cutting / re-key | From RM 30 |
The lock body is the large variable. A basic digital lock and a Wi-Fi fingerprint mortice are not the same product. We itemise supply vs labour if you already bought the lock.
Common install mistakes we correct
- Lock bought for a 45 mm US door on a 40 mm local leaf.
- App never set up, so the owner only has one PIN written on a sticker.
- Old user fingerprints left on a second-hand lock.
- Strike plate on 15 mm screws in a soft frame.
- Installed on a door that scrapes — planing belongs with door services.
Frequently asked questions
Can you install a lock I bought online?
Yes, if it physically fits. We will not warranty the lock body if it is a no-name unit that fails internally, but we will warranty our workmanship.
Do I need Wi-Fi?
Only for remote unlock and some notifications. Fingerprint and PIN work without it on most models.
What happens when the batteries die?
Use the mechanical key or the model’s USB emergency pad. We show you both before we leave.
How long does it take?
30–60 minutes on a matching hole; up to about 2 hours for a new mortice.
Condo management approval?
Inside your own unit, a main-door lock change is normally fine. Common-area or fire-door hardware is a different rule — we will not convert a certified fire door into a non-compliant leaf.
