Mistakes that cost you footage
- Mounting cameras too high. At 4 metres you record the top of everyone's head. Around 2.5–3 metres captures faces.
- One wide shot instead of one identification shot. An overview camera tells you something happened; a tighter camera at the gate tells you who.
- No camera on the NVR itself. If the recorder is taken, so is the evidence. Keep it out of sight and ideally in view of a camera.
- Never checking playback. Test it monthly. A disk that failed six months ago looks identical to a working system on live view.
