Locksmith & Smart Lock Services in Kuala Lumpur & Selangor

Home locks fail in ordinary ways: a worn mortice, a lost set of keys after a move, a digital lock that no longer reads fingerprints, or a landed-house lockout. KL Servis Rumah supplies, installs and services locks across Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.

Direct answer: We install smart locks from RM 420, replace mortice or deadbolt locks from RM 220, cut keys and re-key cylinders from RM 30, and provide non-destructive lockout entry for landed houses from RM 180 with proof of ownership. Installation and hardware we fit carry a 12-month warranty.

This service article is about fitting and repairing locks. For brand-by-brand shopping, use the 2026 smart lock buying guide.

Locksmith services we provide

  • [Smart lock installation](/services/locksmith/smart-lock-installation) — keypad, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi or fingerprint lock with app pairing and user registration. From RM 420.
  • [Mortice / deadbolt lock replacement](/services/locksmith/mortice-deadbolt-lock-replacement) — remove the old lock and fit a new Yale, Imperial or Häfele lock with 3 keys. From RM 220.
  • Key cutting and re-keying — new keys to an existing cylinder, or a new keying so old keys stop working. From RM 30.
  • Emergency lockout (landed house) — non-destructive entry with proof of ownership. From RM 180.

Door leaves that scrape or sag are a door problem. Hinges only: door hinge and lockset repair. A lock that powers on but will not open is covered in smart lock not working.

Mechanical lock vs smart lock

A smart lock on a door that does not latch will fail. We check door alignment before we cut a new mortice.

Brands we commonly fit include Samsung, Yale, Igloohome, Solity, Häfele, Kaiser and Philips, matching the lock to the door thickness and existing hole.

When to replace, re-key, or just cut a key

  • Cut a key when the lock is sound and you only need spares.
  • Re-key when you have moved in, lost a key, or a contractor still has the old set — cheaper than a full lock.
  • Replace the lock when the cylinder is worn, the latch is bent, or you want a different type (deadbolt, smart).
  • Reinforce the frame when the strike plate is held by short screws in a soft frame — a lock is only as strong as the jamb.

Emergency lockout

For landed houses in KL and Selangor we can often open the door the same day without drilling, subject to technician availability. We will ask for proof of ownership (IC, utility bill, or photo ID that matches the address) before we open anything. For condos, the management office often holds a master or can confirm the occupant — we can coordinate with them.

We do not advertise “silent entry” for third parties. No proof, no opening.

How a lock job runs

  1. Assess the door (solid, hollow, metal), existing hole, and what you need (keys, codes, fingerprints).
  2. Quote the lock, parts, labour, and any door modification.
  3. Remove the old lock and tidy the door face.
  4. Install and test. Smart locks: app, fingerprints, codes, mechanical override.
  5. Handover serial number, warranty card, and a short briefing on batteries and backup keys.

How much do locksmith services cost?

ServiceStarting price
Emergency lockout (landed)From RM 180
Mortice / deadbolt replacementFrom RM 220
Smart lock installationFrom RM 420
Key cutting / re-keyingFrom RM 30

The lock body you choose (a basic Yale versus a Wi-Fi fingerprint lock) is the main price swing. We can supply the lock or fit one you already bought, if it matches the door.

What we check on site

  • Door thickness and stile width — some smart locks need a minimum stile.
  • Whether the door is warped or the strike is high (common after humidity or a dropped hinge).
  • Existing hole pattern (condo doors often match Solity / Häfele cutouts).
  • Need for longer strike screws into the stud.

If the leaf itself is the problem, we hand you to door installation instead of forcing a new lock into a banana door.

Common mistakes

  • Buying a smart lock from a marketplace without checking door thickness.
  • Installing on a door that does not latch, then returning the “faulty” lock.
  • Leaving factory admin codes unchanged.
  • Replacing the lock but leaving 15 mm screws in the strike plate.

Frequently asked questions

Which smart lock is best for a Malaysian condo?

There is no single best brand. Condo doors with a standard hole often take Solity or Häfele with less cutting. Landed main doors often take Yale, Samsung or Igloohome mortice models. The buying guide compares features; we confirm fit on site.

Can you keep my lock and only cut keys?

Yes, if the cylinder is healthy.

What if I am locked out of a condo?

Contact management first if they have access. We can still attend; we still need proof you have the right to enter.

How long does a smart lock install take?

About 30–60 minutes on a matching hole; 1.5–2 hours if we cut a new mortice.
