Choosing the roofing material for a car porch
A car porch awning is working roofing, not decoration. The three most common choices:
Tinted polycarbonate
Translucent sheeting that keeps the porch bright while shading the car. Tinted and bronze profiles reduce glare and heat gain compared with clear sheet — the usual trade-off is that clear keeps the area brightest but transmits more heat. Insulated metal deck

Heat: keeping the car and the house wall cooler
The point of a porch awning is shade. Opaque materials (ACP, metal deck) block more glare and heat, while tinted polycarbonate reduces heat gain and still lets some light through. We do not promise a specific temperature drop — orientation, ventilation and the building itself all matter — but shading the porch keeps direct sun and rain off the car, the door and the wall beside it.
Vehicle clearance, height and span
The awning has to clear your vehicles — including the family SUV and the occasional van — while staying low enough to give real shade. The porch span, wall and beam fixing points, vehicle clearance, drainage and heat exposure together determine the frame gauge, projection and material. This is measured, not guessed: mention the tallest vehicle you park early in the conversation.
Drainage: slope, gutters and downpipes
A car porch roof collects a lot of water in a Klang Valley downpour. The awning is given adequate slope so rainwater runs to the intended side or gutter, joints and wall flashings are sealed, and gutters or downpipes are added where the volume of water warrants it. Water pooling on an awning is usually a sign of insufficient slope or support — one of the first things we check on old or leaking awnings. Fixing points and structure
The frame attaches to your wall, beam or slab — or stands on posts when the structure cannot carry the load. If the existing structure is not strong enough, reinforcement or additional posts are quoted as part of the design.
