Search "awning price Malaysia" and you will find per-square-foot figures quoted everywhere — but rarely an explanation of what those figures include. In practice, awning work is priced per project: two awnings of the same size can cost meaningfully different amounts depending on material, frame, access and drainage.

The eight cost factors explained
1. Covered area — width × projection
The quotation starts with the size of the awning: the width along the wall and the projection out from it. Covered area drives how much roofing sheet or panel is needed, the length of frame members, the number of brackets or posts, fasteners and labour. A wider span may also need a heavier frame profile or extra support, so cost does not always scale simply with area.
2. Roofing material and profile
Material is the most visible cost driver. Polycarbonate comes in different profiles and tints; metal deck comes in plain and insulated profiles; ACP panels, tempered glass and fabric systems each carry different material and installation costs. Within the same material family, the profile changes the price — an insulated metal-deck profile or a twin-wall polycarbonate sheet is a different product from a basic single-skin sheet. 3. Frame material, gauge and finish
Every awning sits on a frame — typically mild steel, aluminium or stainless, in gauges sized to the span. A larger span or heavier roofing material needs a bigger profile, and the finish matters too: our steel frames are fabricated with anti-rust primer and a weather-resistant or powder-coat finish, which is part of the quoted work rather than an optional extra.
4. Height and access
A ground-floor porch with open access is the simplest installation. Upper-floor balconies, condominium sites, tight side passages or locations where scaffolding or lifting equipment is needed take more time and equipment — and that is reflected honestly in the quotation.
5. Existing structure and reinforcement
The awning has to attach to something. If the wall, beam or slab at your site is strong enough, fixing is straightforward; if not, reinforcement or additional posts are quoted. This is also why photos of the fixing points are so useful before quoting.
6. Drainage — gutters, downpipes, flashings and sealants
Rainwater has to go somewhere. Depending on the roof area and where water can discharge, the design may include gutters, downpipes, wall flashings and sealants. A well-planned slope keeps water running the right way and prevents pooling — and these items are listed in the quotation rather than hidden inside a lump sum.
7. Removal and disposal of an old awning

8. Custom design and strata specifications
Colour, sheet tint, panel colour and custom shapes are usually selectable, subject to material availability. If you live in a strata property, your management (JMB/MC) may specify allowed colours, projections or designs — meeting those specifications can affect the work quoted.

Quotes can differ in what they include — frame gauge, finish, drainage items, sealants, removal or warranty terms. Compare itemised quotations line by line rather than only the total; the cheapest number is not always the same scope of work.
Can I get a rough price before sending photos?
Ballpark figures without site details are unreliable precisely because of the factors above. Sending a few photos with rough dimensions usually gets you a firm, itemised quotation quickly — often without a site visit.
Does a bigger awning cost less per square foot?
Not necessarily. Larger spans can need heavier frame profiles or extra posts, and material usage does not scale linearly with area. The quotation reflects the actual design your span needs.
