Can skim coat cover hairline cracks permanently?

Skim coat alone can hide hairline cracks temporarily, but structural cracks will reappear within months. For long-term repair we route the crack into a V-groove, fill with flexible acrylic filler, reinforce with fiberglass mesh, then skim coat over. This combination typically holds for 5+ years.
How long does skim coat take to dry before painting?

Each coat needs 4 to 6 hours of drying time in normal Malaysian humidity. The final coat needs 24 hours before primer and paint. We strongly recommend waiting the full 24 hours — premature painting traps moisture and causes paint failure.
Is skim coat the same as putty?

No. Wall putty is a thin, often acrylic-based filler used for minor patching. Skim coat is a cement- or gypsum-based compound applied as a full-surface layer (typically 1–3mm thick) to level and smooth the entire wall. Skim coat is the professional standard; putty is a quick DIY fix.
