TV Console & Feature Wall Carpentry in KL & Selangor

A TV wall in a Malaysian living room has to do three jobs: hold the screen safely, hide the decoder, fibre and plug cluster, and still look calm when the lights are on. A shop console rarely hits the wall width or hides the cables. A built-in console and feature wall can.

Direct answer: KL Servis Rumah builds custom TV consoles and matching feature walls from RM 1,500, with storage drawers, floating shelves, a cable void, and panelling. The TV itself can be mounted as part of the same visit or through our heavy TV wall mounting service.

What this service includes

A typical TV-wall quotation covers:

  • A low console (drawers and/or open cubbies) built to the wall width.
  • A cable-management void at the back so HDMI and power are not draped on the skirting.
  • Floating or fixed shelves for devices and décor.
  • Feature-wall panelling (slat, shaker, or flat laminate) above or around the TV.
  • Site install, levelling and handover.

It does not automatically include the TV, the wall bracket, extra power points, or a full room carpentry package. Those are itemised.

If you only need the screen on the wall and the existing cabinet is fine, book TV mounting — do not rebuild the wall.

Cable management that actually works

The usual KL living-room cluster is: Astro / Unifi, a soundbar, a game console, and a 13A socket that was never centred on the sofa wall.

A clean install needs:

  • A rear void at least deep enough for plugs, not just the cable diameter.
  • A vertical path from console to TV height — trunking inside the panel, or a new electrical point at TV height.
  • Ventilation for a closed decoder cupboard. A fully sealed box cooks the device.
  • Access: a removable back or an open bay so you can change HDMI later.

We do not hide a live extension block inside a sealed cavity.

Feature-wall materials

  • Laminate plywood panels — durable, wipeable, good behind a sofa wall that gets hands.
  • Painted MDF slats or shaker frames — the common “feature” look; keep them off wet or sun-blasted walls.
  • Mixed open shelves — useful, but dust shows; plan fewer, deeper shelves rather than a grid of tiny ones.

Humidity and afternoon sun on a west-facing condo glass wall will move thin MDF. We say so on site if the wall is a problem.

How the job is done

  1. Measure — wall width, TV size, socket positions, window glare, sofa distance.
  2. Design — console height (usually so the TV centre sits at seated eye level), panel layout, open vs closed storage.
  3. Workshop — typically 2–3 weeks after design lock.
  4. Install — 1 day for a simple console; longer if the full wall is panelled.
  5. Mount and test — TV bracket on a solid fixing (stud, brick or a hidden ply pad), cables dressed, devices powered.

If the wall is gypsum, the TV is never hung on hollow board alone. We locate studs or add a hidden timber/ply pad. That is the same safety rule as our handyman TV-mounting work.

How much does a TV console and feature wall cost?

ServiceStarting price
TV console & feature wallFrom RM 1,500
Built-in wardrobe (if the same project)From RM 320 / linier ft
TV wall mounting onlyFrom RM 150

Price moves with wall width, full-height panelling, extra drawers, glass doors, and whether we add power points. Cabinet structure is under the 5-year structure warranty.

What we check before building

  • Wall type: brick, concrete or gypsum partition.
  • Whether water pipes run in the wall (common on condo party walls).
  • Glare from the balcony door at 4–6 pm.
  • Sofa distance — a 75-inch screen on a 2.4 m wall can be too close.
  • If you also want a built-in wardrobe in the same unit, we can sequence both.

A TV that has already fallen is a fixing problem, not a carpentry style problem. See TV fell off the wall.

Common mistakes

  • Building the console first, then realising the TV is off-centre to the sofa.
  • No rear void — cables exit under the skirting in a bundle.
  • Closed decoder cupboard with no vents.
  • Hanging a heavy OLED on feature slats that are only glued.
  • Choosing high-gloss panels opposite a west window.

Frequently asked questions

Can you hide all the wires?

We can hide the run from console to TV inside the carcass or panel. The building’s fibre point still has to reach the console — sometimes that needs a short surface trunk or a new point.

Do you supply the TV bracket?

We can, or we install yours. The bracket must be rated for the TV weight and the wall type.

How long does install take?

A simple console is often one day after workshop lead time. A full-height feature wall may take longer on site.

Can this be done in a rented condo?

Only if the landlord allows drilling and you accept that panels are fixed to the wall. Many tenants should use a freestanding console plus a proper mount instead.
