Aircon Weak Airflow (Not Blowing Strong Enough) — Causes, Fixes & Cost in KL
The aircon cools but the airflow is weak, so the room stays warm even at the highest fan speed.
Estimated professional fix: RM 129–RM 455 depending on the cause
An aircon that cools but barely blows has an airflow problem, and in the overwhelming majority of Malaysian units the cause is one of three things in a fixed order of likelihood: a clogged air filter, a dirty or partially iced evaporator coil, or a blower motor that is winding down. The filter is the first suspect because in a hot, dusty, humid climate a neglected filter loads up with lint and mould in weeks and starves the coil of air. A dirty coil is second: the fins clog, the air cannot pass, and the unit works harder for less. The blower motor is the last — bearings wear, the impeller slows, and the airflow drops in a way no cleaning fixes. The good news: two of the three are routine service jobs, not repairs.

Safe DIY checks first
- 1Open the front panel and take out the filter — if it is dark with dust and mould, clean or replace it and run the unit for a day before calling anyone
- 2Check the airflow at the louvre: weak at all fan speeds points to the coil or motor; weak only at low speed points to the fan
- 3Look at the evaporator (the finned panel under the filter) for visible dust mats or any frost
- 4Note the noise: a whining or grinding note under the airflow points at the blower motor bearings
When to call a pro
What affects the cost
A basic service — filter clean, coil wash, blower check — starts from RM129 and fixes the majority of weak-airflow cases. A chemical wash or overhaul is the step up when a basic service does not restore the flow. A failing blower motor replacement starts from RM455, and is only quoted after the cleaning stage is done and the flow is still weak. We measure the airflow before and after so you can see the difference, and the work carries the standard warranty.

Why is my aircon airflow so weak?
A clogged filter or dirty coil is the most common cause, followed by a weakening blower motor. Cleaning usually restores it.
How often should I clean the filter?
Every 2–4 weeks for heavy use. A clogged filter starves the coil of air and forces the unit to work harder.
Does weak airflow mean I need a new aircon?
Not usually. Most cases are fixed with cleaning or a blower motor replacement. Only very old units may not be worth repairing.
How much to fix weak airflow?
Basic servicing starts from RM 129. If the blower motor needs replacing, it starts from RM 455.
