Aircon Water Leaking (Indoor Unit Dripping) — Causes, Fixes & Cost in KL
Water drips from the indoor unit or runs down the wall, usually from a blocked drain or a tilted unit.
Estimated professional fix: RM 129–RM 455 depending on the cause
Water dripping from the indoor unit is the aircon telling you its drainage has failed — and in a Malaysian unit the causes stack in a fixed order. First and most often: the drain pipe is blocked. A film of mould and dust plugs the small drain line, the tray fills, and the water looks for the path of least resistance, which is usually over the edge of the unit and onto the wall or the carpet. Second: a dirty filter or coil that starves the coil of air, making it freeze, and the ice then melts and overflows. Third and rarer: a failed drain pump on a cassette unit, or a unit that was levelled the wrong way at installation, so the tray tilts toward the wall. Each cause has a different fix, which is why the diagnosis — checking the drain, the filter, the coil, and the unit's level — comes first.

Professional solutions
Safe DIY checks first
- 1Trace the drip: a stream from the drain outlet side of the unit points at the drain; a weep from the bottom edge points at an overflowing tray
- 2Take out the filter: if it is clogged, clean it — a starved coil ices and the melt-water overflows
- 3Check the drain pipe at the outdoor end: lift it up and blow through it — no airflow means the line is blocked
- 4Look at the unit's level: a unit tilted toward the wall will always leak that way
When to call a pro
What affects the cost
A service with a drain clearing starts from RM129 and resolves the majority of drip cases. A chemical wash that also clears the coil and tray runs from RM156. A failed drain pump (cassette units) or a re-leveling job is quoted after the cleaning stage, and sits toward RM455. We confirm the water is actually draining outdoors before we leave, and the work carries the standard warranty.

Why does water drip from my aircon?
It is usually a blocked drain pipe or a dirty filter causing ice that melts and overflows the tray. A chemical wash or overhaul clears it.
Is aircon water leakage dangerous?
It can damage walls, flooring and furniture, and promote mould. It should be fixed before the damage spreads.
Will a chemical wash stop the leak?
Often yes, if the cause is a dirty coil and blocked drain. If the drain pump or installation is faulty, that needs a separate repair.
How fast can you fix a leaking aircon?
Most leak causes are fixed in a single visit. Severe blockages or a failed drain pump may need a follow-up part replacement.
